Lancashire Heeler Open Show February 2011 Judges Critique

Judge Sue Pollock-Yule

I would like to thank the Lancashire Heeler Club for my invitiation and the
exhibitors for their support.   I thoroughly enjoyed judging these sparky characters.  A pity there was only two puppies.

Graduate Class   2 entries 1 abs

1st   Walton's Telpoolwyn Yushua -  Very nice chap to start with, good head, correct planes and width of skull, used his ears.  Very good neck well laid shoulder, exc front and topline and drove well from strong quarters, is maturing nicely.

Post Graduate  4 entries 1 abs

1st    Davies Tapatina Fechin at Ronleydon  - Well balanced dog masculine head good
neck and topline, would like slightly less crook but otherwise is soundly constructed and moved out freely.

2nd   Sadler's Simonsville Fiery Fred - Gave his handler a hard time and wouldn't use his ears or he  might have won.  Such a fidget but I got a glimpse every now and then of a well made dog with dark pigment correct front and topline and a well set and carried tail. Moved out
briskly.

3rd   Bancroft's Hotpot Boycie by Cheinban

Limit Dog  4 entries

1st   Simpson's Simonsville Hurley - Flat skull of good width and well set ears, dark eye and pigmented markings, good neck well set on to level topline.  Well angulated quarters and full of himself on the move.

2nd   Dawes  Lancypat Just Bobby - Attractive head and expression, lighter tan and tighter tail, well sprung ribs very firm muscular loin, good croup and quarter, moved out well.

3rd   Green's Doddsline Mr Sam

Open Dog  7 entries 1 abs   (Lovely class of quality dogs)

1st   Cartledge & Lord's Ch Foxthyme Oliver Cromwell ShCM - Beautiful Liver & Tan, he caught my eye straight away. stunning outline using his neck and ears at all times.  Firm topline & croup, but his many qualities could not be denied - kept his outline on the move and dominated the ring with his showmanship.  Best of Breed

2nd   Jones' Ch Welshmoor Father Jack - Not disgraced here and close up, very typey, masculine head, well sprung ribs and well muscled all through.  Strong Croup and second thighs giving plenty of drive.  Rest Best Dog

3rd   Gordon's Troutop Rolo  -  Another one of excellent type and construction, very good head, forehand and topline - unluckly to meet the two above.

Veteran Dog  5 entries  2 abs

1st   Reid's Doddsline Sparkey - Well names at 13 years old has lost none of his vigour.  Lovely head and eye showing plenty of character.  Well bodied with good angulation and strong quarters.  Best Veteran

Puppy Bitch  3 entries

1st   Jones' Jnanas Winifred Fechan (NAF)  - Lovely little liver and tan baby at her first show.
Just six months and took a while to feel her feet but ended up quite the showgirl.   Sweet expression, very good front and topline.  Excellent outline and eventually decided the floor was OK and moved out nicely.  Best Puppy

2nd   Simpson's Haile Jade  -  Older puppy with very good head and body. Neck well set into shoulders, unsettled in topline on the move, but good tail set and carriage, promising.
Res Best Puppy

Junior Bitch  3 entries  1 abs

1st   Lord's Foxthyme Te Anau  -  Only 13 months but very promising, she ticks all the boxes and only needs maturity.  Richly pigmented, feminine head with parallel planes and well caried ears.  Correct in front, level topline, well angulated with good tail set and ex movement

2nd   Bancroft's Leyeside Miss Tique by Cheinban  -  Attractive head and expression, well set ears, paler in tan with well sprung ribs and firm topline.  Not the tail carriage of winner but moved out freely.

Graduate Bitch 3 entries

1st   Taylor's Ronleydon Amber Sunshine over Tapatina  -  Alert and showing off her sound construction to advantage, level topline, nice width of croup and bend of stifle and move very well.

2nd   Davies Ronleydon Amber Beebee  -  Close up to winner and of similar type.  Wasn't using her ears and neck to advantage, but when she stood up and showed looked a different bitch and her movement was sound and free.

3rd  Duxbury's Tapatina Delyth

Post Graduate Bitch  5 entries

1st   Tatlor's Ronleydon Amber  Sunshine over Tapatina - repeat

2nd   Simpson's Belinda Bell by Simonsville  -  nice overall shape soundly constructed, a bit fidgety and didn't put all in or might have done better.  Excelled in topline, quarters and moved freely.

3rd    Spooner's Audaxus Ma Cherie Rhea  -  Very smart little bitch, nice overall shape and balance using her ears.   Very good side movement but untidy in front, good quarters and bend of stifle.

Limit Bitch  3 entries

1st   Taylor's Simonsville Yule Time  -  the more I looked at this girl the better she appeared
Nothing flashy, but everything in perfect proportion, very good forechest, ribbing and topline.
Well bent stifle with muscular 2nd thigh of good width and well carried tail.  Moves a bit wide behind but good profile movement and was well deserved  Reserve Best Bitch.

2nd   Gordon's Troutop Norman  -  Scored in head and expression, well shaped dark eyes and correct earset.  Good neck and forehand with well placed elbows...Just needs more hind angulation to enhance her profile movement, but went true fore and aft.

3rd   Duxbury's Tapatina Delyth

Open Bitch  7 entries 2 abs

1st   Lord's Ch Foxthyme Eliza  -  quality bitch feminine head of good length and parallel planes.  Excelled in neck and forehand and beautifully balanced all through.  Firm topline and nicely angulated quarters.  Well ribbed with broad croup and sound movement.  Best Bitch

2nd   Simpson's Simonsville Anya May  -  Strongly build and sound all through.  If she had put all in she might have pushed harder as she has many good qualities and little to fault.
Pleased in forehand, body and quarters and moved soundly.

3rd   Bancroft's Hotpot Kiddle Cate by Cheinban

Veteran Bitch  5 entries  1 abs

1st    Cartledge's Ch Leonine Ivy of Ryslip -  Loved this girl's head and expression, she dares you to ignore her, clear bright eyes, erect well placed ears.  Strong muzzle and correct stop.
Neck flows smoothly into well laid shoulder; good spring of rib and strong quarters.  Good
topline standing but lost it slightly on the move, but at 12 years she stood out here and moved with great freedom.

2nd  Gordon's Troutop Gloria  -  8 years young and in excellent shape.  Excellent front with firm elbows and well sprung ribs and correct height to length ratio.  Just losing her underline slightly to middle age spread, but went well with strong drive.
